A few weeks ago, the first leaves turned orange… slowly the yellows are becoming more prominent here in Heidesheim. It will be a while before the forest looks and feels like autumn, but you can sense that the course has been set.
The canidae become more active… they spent most of the summer slurping around, panting and now they become more agile, eager to get all the saved energy out…
Ninja shows this abundance of energy by not listening very well, jumping around and being a stumblebum… a slightly energized “give paw” may end up with both paws inside your mouth or a fat scratch over the belly… a “come here” is a lot harder to follow.
What I mean is that it is extra important to be on the lookout what is happening around you, to react before Ninja does or for the sake of the moment to keep him leashed until this energy wore off.
It is a good time to use the evening/morning hours for an extended ride at the bike (bikejöring) or long extended walks… and in the evening, I spend a bit extra time with him to cuddle him… within a few days things will become a lot better…
The next stage, where the canidae are all beefed up, is in October/November/December the first days around freezing temperatures… I am looking forward to that.
