Faible for Vintage Lenses…

Maybe it is time to post another vintage lens shot. This picture has been taken with a 46-year-old Russian lens, a #helios44.

Even before I had the money to buy the @sony a6000 I read that one of this cameras’ big advantages is, that you can adapt nearly all lenses to it. In related photography groups, I found several pictures with old vintage lenses that had a very special look to them – Jupiter-8, Helios-44 and Minolta Lenses.

I scouted Ebay and found this Helios-44 inclusive a Zenith camera (they are often cheaper with camera, than the pure lens) for 15€ ($18) and decided to buy it. Then I added a Chinese 5€ M42-NEX-Adapter to it and had a lens that was a lot sharper than the standard Kit-Lens or Kit-Zoom.

This shot has been taken during an overcast, foggy morning and the manual focus lens is nevertheless pretty sharp. With these manual lenses, taking pictures feels again like “photography” and not just pressing a button. I like that.

The Helios is a copy of the Carl Zeiss Biotar 58mm ƒ/2 lens. It dates back all the way to the 1920s and is famous for its’ sharpness and unique bokeh. Too bad, I’ll never be able to afford @zeisscameralenses I’d really love to use one.

Do you have any special lenses you like?
