Ninja learns „bark!“

Ninja learns "bark!"

Barkin‘ dog … „Big Deal, huh?“ you may think … yet, it was the most difficult command to teach …

How do you teach a silent, quiet dog „bark!“? Ninja never barks, never howls … it is almost as if he was mute. Just now and then when I command him to go „back!“ more than a few times in a row, he ‚complains‘ with something that resembles a woof.

I have used the past weeks‘ evening exercise to have Ninja walk backwards until he let out his ‚complain‘ … (you can see this int he first 20 seconds of the video) and rewarded him with a „YES!“ …

Sadly, after 2 or 3 barks he stops the woofing altogether … It was just the day before this video was taken that he realized what I wanted him to do … ofc it is not perfect, yet … but he knows the trick and simply requires more repetitions!

Also you can notice that he has still the tendency to go backwards, on „bark“ („Bell!“ in German) … This requires some fine tuning …. and the worse part is to unteach him to bark on „go back!“ 😀

I am so happy that he managed to learn the command at all. The irony … other people want their dogs to be quiet and I teach mine to bark 😀

First time „back with obstacle“, outside.

First time "back with obstacle", outside.

Ninja always tries to avoid obstacles when going back. Usually by sitting at its side instead. So I taught him to go „straight back“ even with obstacle and this is our first outdoor try … the little tree at first. Notice how funny he moves his paws? 😀
Then he does the „I’ll rather sit here instead“ avoidance again. So lovely that he tried anyhow … and the last attempt was quite good actually ♥

Siberian Husky prey dummy training

Siberian Husky prey dummy training

The previous video, our first outdoor Training, showed that Ninja was still too distracted. He did well but I decided to continue training inside a bit longer to increase accuracy. Today was our second outdoor training. It wasn’t just „throw and retrieve“, instead I ran around all over the place and hid the prey dummy from Ninja.

As you can see he enjoys this training and for me that is really the only thing that matters … He gets a friendly „no“ (there is no negative touch with it) to correct his behaviour and there is encouragement for a good completion. He appears to be enjoying the game.

Happy Birthday Ninja!

Happy Birthday Ninja!

Today Ninja became 3 years old, he is slowly growing up … He got this bone as gift and carried it home proudly. The peasants glance when they saw the wolfy dog with this huge bone in his mouth was priceless …

Don’t touch the chicken wing!

Don't touch the chicken wing!

Yeah, I know … it is evening here, rainy dark outside … and I am not using a light … This is better, because Ninjais changing fur atm. The greyish carpet is actually blue … this is 1 day without vacuuming 😀
If you look closely you will notice that my sleeve has hair on it, too …
